The New LMIA-exempt Work Permit in Canada
The Canadian government recently announced the introduction of a new work permit that is exempt from the LMIA for eight IT companies operating in the nation. The new work permit is a component of the International Mobility Program (IMP), introduced in 2023 and under the Innovation stream.
Employers in Canada who have participated in the Global Hypergrowth Project can hire qualified overseas workers without having to complete a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). An employer-specific work permit can be obtained by skilled foreign workers who receive an offer of employment from these companies.
The eight chosen businesses are recognized as leaders in their respective industries and can introduce new ideas. Certain foreign employees hired by these businesses may be eligible for an LMIA-exempt work permit.
