US provides additional Indian visa slots.
About 250,000 additional visa slots have been made available by the US Mission for Indian workers, officials, tourists, and students. Since visit visas are the foundation of the US-India relationship, this action attempts to make it easier to go to the US from India.
The recently increased visa slots would speed up the visa application process for Indian applicants by enabling them to attend interviews on time. An ambitious aim to enhance the US Visa application process from India has been set by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden. About 2.4 million Indian tourists arrived in the US in 2024, up 35% from the same period in 2023, according to reports.
An increase in Indian demand for US student visas.
Recent reports by the US Embassies revealed an increased demand for US student visas from Indians during the student visa season in the summer of 2024. A record number of first-time student visa applications were handled by the US embassy; the majority of these applicants were given appointments at one of the five US consular sections located throughout India.
An estimated 140,000 student visas were granted to Indian students in 2023, more than any other nation in the globe, according to estimates from the US Embassy and Consulates in India. For the third consecutive year, the US has issued a record number of student visas, breaking previous records.
Awaiting US visa waiting period.
Following the reported increase in demand since 2021, the US has been aggressively formulating and enacting rules to reduce the length of time applicants must wait for US visas and interviews. The processing period for Indian applicants seeking a visit visa to the US has been shortened to one year.
Family reunification, tourism efficiency, and corporate connectivity are currently the US's top priorities. An estimated six million Indians have already entered the US on non-immigrant visas, according to reports, and the Mission receives one thousand visa applications every day.
